Hi! I'm RJ Lewis. I've been helping people with technology in general since the 1990s and building websites since 2005. Technology evolves rapidly, but there are some questions that remain steadfast in the face of all of that change. Here are a few of those:
Digital Strategy is the process of developing plans that help you do business online.
Digital Strategists take complex processes and smooth them out for you. The solutions that we put together most often, but don’t always involve software solutions – hence the digital part.
A super popular and famous software company called Hubspot coined the term Marketing Flywheel to describe the idea of developing strategies geared towards moving your audience through the marketing, sales, and customer service process smoothly.
Since it does cover the three major functions of the business process, I personally call it a Business Flywheel instead.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you call it, just make sure that you are considering what your customers need to do to meet your business goals and the steps they take to get there.
When you visit a website such as amazon.com, the place where you type the address is called a URL bar. The actual address that you type in that bar is called a Uniform Resource Locator.
Now back to our amazon.com example.
The entire URL looks kind of like this: https://amazon.com right? Well, the end part that says amazon.com is called the top level domain, or domain for short.
The computers already took over.
Kidding.! I kid... Sort of.
Okay. Here’s the slightly better [longer] answer.
Your website and every other website that exists is on a computer called a server somewhere. When you put your website on one of those computers, the computer is hosting your website.
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer
What is it?
It’s computer programming designed to make sure information that between a server and a browser is secure.
Yes you need it and here’s why!
When people visit your website and you have security enabled, they may not know it, but they can trust that they are doing business with you and not some random malcontent that wants to steal their information. Furthermore, Google – the largest search provider in the world – has already made it known that secure sites get priority in their search engine.
SSL is step 1 of Search Engine Optimization and good for business all the way around.
My website hosting includes TLS (Transport Layer Security) by default, which is like the next level of SSL, or as I like to call it – SSL version Awesome.
Never judge a book by its cover.
I like making the web look better, but the truth is this: you can build a nice looking website for free. Right now. I’ll even tell you how to do it, but what makes up the cost of a website is not just about how it looks.
The benefits that your web solution provides to your customers and by extension, yourself can be like the difference between See Spot Run — not too riveting, but you’ll learn how to read — and Choose Your Own Adventure — you’ve got that reading thing down and you’re ready for an experience that is totally engrossing from beginning to end, or the other end, or the other end.
My website bootcamps start at $2997. Customized e-commerce, marketing automation, or API integrated solutions have a general starting price of about $4,000. Chat with me today, or order a blueprint if you have questions.
Now this really does depend on the benefits and content that your website is going to serve. Website bootcamp currently comes in DIY, 5 day and 10 day timelines. For custom development work , I allot 1 week for each major phase of the website development process.
If you’re reading this and it is after 2011, 2012 or so, your website development better include styling and consideration for mobile devices.
If you have gotten quotes from other so-called professionals and they said anything about paying additional monies to make your website mobile friendly (and they weren’t talking about a mobile application for people to download or something)… run, do not walk to literally anyone else in this business.
So, the short answer: yes.
- The Blueprint
- Our detailed discovery session is meant to determine what the project entails and develop a solution that fits your needs.
- The Sitemap
- During this step, we will compile the content that is going on your website and I will put together a hierarchical representation of the pages and workflows.
- The Prototype
- Now we’ll take all of that content that we worked on and create a working test site and develop all of your features and functionality.
- The Design
- This step makes all those others look good.
- The Launch
- Are we there yet?
Sure! During this phase we finish testing all of the functionality – kick the tires so to speak, make sure everything looks and behaves as you expect, and then turn the virtual lights on!
- Are we there yet?
Don’t worry. We’re not going to leave you hanging. I will be at your disposal for 30 days post launch and then will transition you into one of my annual subscription Website Management Care Plans.
